During My experience on the East Central Swim team a lot of things became a second nature to me. Waking up at 4:30am driving to school, getting ready for practice, and being ready to be in the water by5:30am. Getting out of practice and only having 15 minutes to shower and be ready for school. By the third week I was so into the habit that I almost woke up that early on a Saturday when practice wasn't until 8:00am. After school practice was the same way, we were always in a rush! We had to be ready and in the pool 10 minutes after the final bell rang. With a school of 1400 kids it was quite the challenge but you learned not to be late. If you were late, it was 50 yards of swimming for every minute you were late. Meaning if your were 10 minutes late you could tack on an extra 500 yards to the end of your practice! A normal practice for our team lasted 2.5- 3 hours and consisted of swimming about 3000-4000 yards at a time. Christmas Break and "S.H.I.T Week" or Super High Intensity Training Week were the worst. Practices would often last 4-5 hours and consist of 9000-10000 yards. The worst practice i ever had was a Christmas break practice in which we had to swim a set of 100yrds. 1oo times in a row with only 1 minute 30 seconds to do each one.
